A Grand Estate
Throughout the 19th and early part of the 20th centuries, Florida was known as the Italy of North America. Their shared climate and peninsula shapes seemed to offer a natural connection. A number of private estates – such as in Cà d’Zan in Sarasota and Villa Vizcaya in Miami – helped to enhance this perceived connection through the use of Italian architecture and building materials. Waterfront villas were surrounded by sculptured gardens that flowed into the less tame Florida landscape. So it was then, so it will be again. Winner of the 1992 Masters Championship with a miraculous save on the 12th hole, Couples possesses a naturally fluid and powerful swing that has propelled him to many a victory in his career. It’s easy to see how his playing strengths influence his Signature golf course designs. The Gardens’ course flow will maintain a very organic feel and incorporate much of its naturally stunning surroundings. A great effort will be taken to ensure the featured plants, construction and maintenance of this course works in harmony with the rest of the community’s botanical integrity.
The Country’s Newest “Must-Play” Course
A natural extension to The Conservatory’s scenic charm will be the Signature golf course designed by Tom Watson. In the tradition of the greatest golf courses in the country, it will be a private, woodlands-style course offering one of the most picturesque and thrilling golf experiences in the country. In keeping with the natural surroundings, Watson has utilized the skills of Mother Nature as his co-designer. To walk along this course’s fairways, you’ll sense a feeling both new and familiar.
